Our Galusha Ancestors have been found to have begun their settlement in the Oppenheim, Fulton County, New York area between the years of 1830 and 1840. (The Galusha’s can still be found in this general area to this day).

Our New England Heritage!
Prior to their settlement in Oppenheim they were found in Williamstown, Berkshire County, Massachusetts with the birth of our 4th Great Grandfather Samuel Galusha in 1786. By 1820 he was found residing in Fort Edward, Washington County, New York up to 1840 where he was then found residing in Oppenheim where he died in 1866.

Samuel’s father, Thomas Galusha (our 5th great grandfather) was born in Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut and died at Fort Edward, but Samuel’s grandfather Jacob Galusha (our 6th great grandfather) was born and died in Massachusetts. Thomas joined the Revolutionary War on 23 Apr 1778. He enlisted for 3 yrs. He was on the pay roll of Capt Ebenezer Hill’s Connecticut Company - 7th Regiment.

[It’s Thomas’s birth location that I am concerned with...did Jacob migrate to Ct and then back to Mass? What caused this different birth location?]

Samuel’s great grandfather Nathaniel Galusha (our 7th great grandfather) was also born in Mass. It was his 2nd great grandfather Daniel Galusha (our 8th great grandfather) who was born in the Isle of Jersey in 1652 whom I am most intrigued with. He died in Montreal Quebec, Canada. [How and why did his children migrate to Massachusetts?]

The Isle of Jersey or Bailiwik of Jersey, is one of the “Channel Islands” located off the French coast of Normandy. The Isle of Jersey is a separate possession of the British Crown and is not part of the United Kingdom. However, it is a “British Crown Dependency” and the United Kingdom is constitutionally responsible for the defense of Jersey. Why did Daniel leave here and migrate to Montreal?

As you can see, there are many questions that we need to find answers to. Much research still needs to be done on this family, but I believe you will enjoy discovering their history along with me.
