Welcome to our Redmond Family Tree

I owe much thanks to my mother (granddaughter of Elizabeth (Redmond) Fortune) & her cousin (granddaughter of Catherine (Redmond) Doyle) for providing a large account of the Redmond family history found here.

Our Redmond’s came from a large and humble family of County Wexford & Carlow, Ireland.  Our Redmond ancestors home is still standing in Kilbranish, Cranemore, Carlow, Ireland.  It is now a historical landmark, along with the school across the road from it.

Several of our Redmond ancestors immigrated to America in the early 1900’s and settled in the state of New York.  They were found in Dolgeville & Little Falls in Herkimer County, and Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York.  Several went to England and then on to Canada.

REDMOND FAMILY TREE

Family history name: The Irish name REDMOND is of Norman origin having been brought to the country in the twelfth century and is taken from the first name Raymond. The main settlement point was in County Wexford and it is here as well as in Counties Dublin and Wicklow that the majority of descendants can still be found.”

~The Redmond Clan

Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Réamoinn, a patronymic from the personal name Réamonn ‘Raymond’, introduced by Anglo-Norman settlers. Now widespread, this was the name of families in Connacht and Wexford.” ~Ancestry.com
